Currently we do not have a vegan option. We have not tested vegan materials in terms of durability with our system and styles. We are focused on slow circular fashion and reduction in consumption, so we must ensure that any materials we use can stand the test of time before we bring them to market.

Having lived and worked in Chicago, London, and San Francisco as a senior tech executive, she brings an international perspective to a brand deeply rooted in Scottish values. Influenced by her Italian and Irish heritage, world travels, and years spent in creative capitals and working with some of the worlds leading product teams, LIAVELLA embodies a uniquely Scottish spirit with global sophistication.

Our bags are designed in Scotland, refined in New York City fashion district and expertly crafted in China. At LIAVELLA, we believe true craftsmanship knows no borders. While our brand is proudly rooted in Edinburgh, Scotland, our handbags are meticulously crafted in China - the global epicentre of luxury leather production. It’s a little-known truth that over 60–70% of luxury handbags are made in China, where artisans have perfected their craft through generations of experience. Unlike many brands, we don’t hide this - we celebrate it.

We work closely with a trusted team of artisans whose expertise spans decades. These are the same highly skilled craftspeople who produce for many of the world’s most respected luxury brands. We’ve spent time in our factory, building real relationships and ensuring every piece meets our standards. Manufacturing in China allows us to honour true craftsmanship while creating a smarter, more balanced model of production.

The name AVAIA has a special story.

It was inspired by our founder’s sister, who named her daughter Avaia.

The family name, Avella, of Italian heritage, is often pronounced “A-v-ay-a” when spoken in Italian along the Amalfi Coast. This beautiful pronunciation became the inspiration for Avaia, honoring both the family name on our founder’s mother’s side and her niece.

This meaningful connection continues throughout our collection, carrying forward the legacy and sentiment behind the name.
